Buy small construction hats and tool belts, and have your guests come dressed in overalls (and flannel, if it’s not summer or too warm outside). As each guest enters, give them a construction hat and tool belt to wear (and keep!) for the party. Make sure the tools are ones they can use during the crafts or games associated with the party. Buy bright yellow plastic table cloths, with Bob the Builder plates, napkins, etc. to decorate the tables.
Find some work-horses and caution tape to string around the room in which you plan to have the party. Use black and yellow streamers to string throughout the area as well. Have extra construction hats on hand to use as table decorations, filled with candy, gum, or small toys (in small yellow plastic bags, if possible). Again, using Bob the Builder plates, napkins, etc to finish the décor will make your guests believe Bob is right there with them!
Go to your local party store to see if they have any Bob the Builder blow-up dolls or other decorations, including yellow and black balloons, as well as Bob the Builder balloons, if they have them. Hang "Men at Work" yellow, diamond-shaped signs (or others, including "Slow, Children at Play" or make up your own road signs referring to the child (i.e. "Happy Birthday, (child’s name); "Birthday in Progress", etc).
Craft Ideas2-6 Year Olds
Create your own toolbox! In advance of the party, cut out tools and a toolbox out of different colored construction paper. Purchase Elmer’s glue or another child-safe glue, and set everything by type of tool on a table. Sit the kids around the table, and have them create their own toolboxes. For added creativity, allow use of crayons to draw and write on their toolboxes (especially if they want to name them).
Using popsicle sticks and Elmer’s glue (or another child-safe glue), have the little ones build their own houses! Have a template house available for them to use as a guide.
6-10 Year Olds
Create your own tools! Purchase wooden tools (unfinished) in advance of the party, along with different colors of paint. Set aside an area in which the kids can paint their own tools to take home. If your budget allows, purchase inexpensive "kids" toolbelts for them to use for their new tools when they leave the party.
Using watercolor paint and large construction paper, have the kids draw their own dump truck, toolbox, construction zone, or some other drawing. Or, if you prefer, fingerpainting is also fun and messy, which older kids love!
Game Ideas2-6 Year Olds
Pull out the old Tonka trucks and have a good ‘ole-fashioned truck race. If possible, have each child bring their own truck, decorated for the race, and section off an area either in the garage, the basement, or the driveway, and let the trucks go! Make sure you have prizes for the best decorated, the fastest, and "honorable mention".
Have some building fun using Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, Legos, Erector Set, or regular blocks. For each age represented, again, a contest can be fun - most creative building, largest building, etc.
6-10 Year Olds
This age group might have even more fun building with Lincoln Logs, Tinkertoys, etc. To make it a little different, divide the kids into groups and give them each a building to build. (Make sure they are wearing their construction hats!) Contests are still a great way for the kids to have a great time while working hard - so trying to incorporate a contest is a great way to incent your party guests to build the best building. Take a picture (using a polariod or easily printable digital) for the children to take home for their parents to enjoy.
Take your party outside, and using Tonka trucks, backhoes, etc, have your little "Bobs" dig in the dirt, preparing the foundation for a building. You might even have them create some rivers, plant trees, etc for extra fun.

Food Ideas
Kids love food! With too many activities and crafts, it may be difficult to incorporate too much food, but here are a few easy food ideas to match with the theme of the party:
Chicken fingers and fries - easy to make, easy to serve, and loved by almost all kids! (also great as boulders and tree limbs!) You can pick these up at your local grocery, bake them in the oven, and offer some BBQ sauce and ketchup, and you’re ready to go! Serve them in little mini-construction helmets or dump trucks for an added decorative touch.
Candy corn and peanuts (make sure there are no kids with allergies to nuts) together make a great snack, and look like "pile-on" cones and rocks! How fun this can be as a treat for the kids, with little work for mom.
Incorporating just a few of these fun ideas will ensure your little guests have a fun time in the land of construction!
Above all - have FUN and don't forget to take lots of photos.
