Do you want a unique way to celebrate Boss's Day this year. Don't just give a gift that takes up desk space and eventually gets left in a drawer. Take a look at these unique ideas.
National Boss Day is a day during which employees can recognize the work, effort and contributions of managers, supervisors and the MD's of companies. It is a day to show their appreciation and honor "the boss".
The concept of National Boss Day was dreamed up by Patricia Bays Haroski in 1958. She worked for her father at the State Farm Insurance Company. She wanted to have a day in which to recognize bosses for the effort which goes into managing and running a business. Also it is a way to enhance the relationship between a boss and their staff. The reason Patricia chose the 16th October as the date - its her fathers birthday.
Most celebrations are joint efforts on the side of the staff. Greeting cards are given along with gifts, many will take the boss out to lunch or bunches of flowers will appear on their tables. When there isn't a huge office staff then the individual employees or secretaries may just do something small for their boss. Try be inventive this Boss's Day. Gifts chosen as tokens or out of obligation doesn't show your boss how well they are appreciated. Find out what their favorite "thing" is. Is it fruit - get a fruit basket. A base ball team - get an autographed photo. His car - get a model for his desk. Does she love red roses - get a bunch. Guaranteed, whenever they look at these items it will make them feel special and appreciated.
Here is a stunning idea. Get your boss a Virtual Yes Man from http://www.almorale.com/calbd.html. Al Morale is a downloadable gift! Outsource the yes-man duties in your office to this hilarious virtual yes man and lackey! His name is Al Morale and he will make your boss feel like royalty! That's why Al is so popular around National Bosses Day. Al schmoozes your boss with nearly 150 lines of funny flattery, hilarious praise and comic kudos! He will agree with everything your boss says and even laugh at your boss's jokes! This is the ultimate boss gag gift -- perfect if your boss has a great sense of humor.
Another way to honor the boss is to hold a function in their honor.
Boss's Day is on the 16th of October.
You and your colleagues could take the boss to lunch. Yes this has been done before but you can put in the effort to make it more special then the average meal out. Find out from his secretary or spouse what their favorite restaurant or type of restaurant is. Let everyone pay for themselves but share the cost of the boss's meal. Try to get permission from their own boss (unless he is the MD) to give them the afternoon off. Then give your boss an official afternoon pass signed by his boss and staff. Even better book lunch at a hotel and let their spouse know so they can book a room for the night. That way the boss gets an afternoon off and special time with their spouse, which is probably a rare occurrence. If they have kids arrange for a sitter.
If you prefer to have something at the office then remove the furniture from a boardroom. Get everyone to bring picnic blankets. Order picnic baskets or get several people to each bring one. Ensure paper napkins are bright. Pretend its spring rather then fall. Try get hold of bright mixed flowers. Bring in some office plants if possible. For added ambiance have spring music playing in the background. Find out what their favorite food and drink is and serve these. Use paper plates (easier to discard afterwards) and paper cups for fruit juice or soda. Have finger foods. It is far easier. Serve crudités - cocktail tomatoes, julienne carrots and julienne cucumber with a dip. Have rolled ham, chicken drumsticks, sausage rolls, etc. Biscuits and cheese is a great finger food. If you are wanting deserts make sure they can also be eaten with fingers. Here is a free printable invitation for an office picnic.
There is something special about recognition. Ask everyone the week before Boss's Day to write down one or more positive things about the boss. They are patient, a good mentor, sing well, are great moms or dads. Anything about the boss. Compile this list and put it on a certificate or scroll. Have this mounted or framed for the boss's wall. This is guaranteed to make them feel special and appreciated.
Always keep in mind - the celebration or gift must take your boss and their likes/dislikes into account, not your own. Take a look at these free printable Boss's Day greeting cards
