Another idea is to make the invitations to look like Dora’s backpack. An easy way to do this is to fold a purple piece of paper like a seed packet. Glue the bottom tab. Decorate the outside to look like her book bag then on a white piece of notebook paper write the information for the party and put it inside the book bag. Seal the top with a Dora the Explorer sticker.

Decoration Ideas
Decorate with Cinco de Mayo decorations for the Latino feel. Put posters and toys out of Dora the Explorer and decorate with balloons and streamers in orange, pink and purple. You can make different areas of the party look like different places where Dora goes in the show like the Puzzle Bridge, Snake River and Creaky Fort (see the ideas below on how to make these).

Craft Ideas

2-6 year olds: Make Dora’s Map
Provide the kids with paper, googly eyes, crayons and material for the cape. Have adults help the kids roll the paper and tape it so that it will stay. Then let them draw on the mouth, glue on the eyes and tie on the cape.

6-10 year olds: Make Stars
Have stars cut out of paper. Let the kids color and decorate three or four. Help them attach fishing line to the stars and hang them from the ceiling for the rest of the party. As they leave have them point out the stars they made and take them home with them.

Game Ideas

2-6 year olds: A Dora Adventure
Tell the kids that you can’t find their goody bags and you need their help. Hand them a map that you have made of your yard or party area. Have them go through Snake River, (This can be made inside with poster cut to look like rocks and rubber snacks or real stepping stones outside and rubber snakes.) climb Creaky Fort, (This can be a swing set or if the party is inside Decorate a set of stairs to look like the fort and have the kids climb it.) and then have an adult pretend to be Swiper the Sneaky Fox. Let the kids know that he is trying to get the goody bags. Help the kids say "Swiper, no swiping" three times like Dora does to get their goody bags.

6-10 year olds: Puzzle Bridge Cake Walk
In the Spooky Forest is the Puzzle Bridge. Make an area of the party look like the spooky forest either by making trees out of paper or boxes and hanging green streamers from the ceiling. To make the puzzle bridge cut out pieces of poster board in puzzle shapes, write numbers on them and tape them to the ground. Get animal crackers and put them in a big bowl. Have the kids each stand on a puzzle piece and play music. Have them jump from piece to piece and when the music stops have them look at the number on the puzzle piece. They can all come up and count out that many cookies from the bowl. (Keep in mind when you are making the puzzle pieces that you may want to keep the numbers small depending on the age of the children at the party.)

Food Ideas
Dora is Hispanic so fill a food table with Hispanic foods such as cheese quesadillas, crunchy tacos and bunuelos (you can call it Boot’s Monkey Bread). Monkey Bread is made by cutting 4 tubes of refrigerator biscuits in half and putting them into a greased bundt pan. In a saucepan mix together 2/3 cups sugar, a stick of margarine, a teaspoon cinnamon and a teaspoon vanilla. Heat until it boils then pour over the biscuits and cook in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.
