Home-made invitations are a fun introduction with this type of party. With some cardstock invitations, you can draw a maze using Nemo stickers from a well-known local store or landmark to your house. Place Nemo at your house so the kids (and their parents!) have to "Find Nemo". One idea for the inside of the card include:
"Help us find Nemo at (child’s name)’ birthday party!"
Decoration Ideas
My first suggestion is that you get a Finding Nemo party pack - it makes life SO much easier! This pack for 8 includes 8 Nemo Invitations, 8 Nemo Dessert Plates, 16 Nemo Dessert/Beverage Napkins, 8 Nemo Hot/Cold Cups , 1 Nemo Tablecover, 8 Solid Color Orange, Spoons, 6 Solid Color Lime Green Latex Balloons, 6 Solid Color Baby Blue Latex Balloons and 6 Solid Color Orange Latex Balloons.
String blue and green Christmas lights around the room, along with Nemo streamers, balloons, and even Nemo, Dory, and Bruce cut-outs hung from the ceiling. Also, have the table decorated with Finding Nemo-oriented tableware, plates, napkins, and a table cloth. Place a huge fish bowl in the center with several Nemo-looking fish for extra party fun!
Hang a Nemo piñata from the ceiling, and include a large, poster-sized birthday card with Nemo on it! Have all the kids sign the card as they walk in the door - even the littlest ones!
Along with the above, be prepared to decorate the kids with Nemo tattoos! Have each child pick out their favorite character and then give them that tattoo! What a great way to have "walking" decorations! Some other ideas to help heighten the Nemo theme include swim fins, diving masks, fishing poles, and even some gummy worms in little bowls on the tables!
Have the kids create their own Finding Nemo scene with Nemo and the whole gang. If possible, include a picture of each child and have them cut out their face to stick in place of Nemo (or in addition to).
Finding Nemo Shrinky Dinks!! Kids can color their own characters and create Shrinky Dinks to take home for memories long after the party had dried up!
6-10 yr olds
Using www.findingnemo.com, you can find some great background scenes for Nemo, Dory, and the whole gang. Have your kids create their own cartoon using one of these scenes and Nemo stickers, coloring book pages, etc.
Using construction paper, eyeballs, and scrapbooking scissors and supplies, have each child create their favorite Nemo character. Afterward, have them describe that character and why they are their favorite.
Make a Finding Nemo Mobile. This page has printable templates and detailed instructions for this craft activity.
2-6 yr olds
Play Finding Nemo: Assign one person to be Nemo, have them hide, and then have everyone else be Bruce - looking for and chasing after Nemo!! Have a "home base" for your little Nemo to get to safely!
Squirt the Bruce: Assign someone to be Bruce, and using Nemo squirt fish, have the "Nemos" squirt Bruce. After a few minutes, have Bruce pick a new Bruce! (you might want to take this game outside)
6-10 yr olds
Show a clip from Nemo’s movie, and then have each child write down everything they remember from the scene. The one who remembers the most, in the most detail, wins!
Finding Nemo water contest! Purchase some "Finding Nemo" water guns (www.treasurekingdom.com), and have them chase each other in the backyard!
Kids love food! With too many activities and crafts, it may be difficult to incorporate too much food, but here are a few easy food ideas to match with the theme of the party:
Goldfish crackers are a great "snack" hit for kids of all ages.
Make a Jello mold (green, blue, or a good mix) with marshmallows, mandarin oranges, pineapples, and cherries. On top of the Jello, add some Nemo (non-edible) characters to make it look like an ocean scene. Yum!
Remember to take lost of photos - many years later, when your kid is grown-up he/she will still remember his/her Finding Nemo Birthday Party!
