Another idea is to take yellow card stock and cut in the form of diamonds, with your child’s initials on one side (like SD, for Scooby-Doo), and the following on the other side:
"Mystery adventure - come help find the treasure at (child’s name) party!!"
Bright blue and yellow balloons, Scooby balloons, blue, and yellow streamers - as well as Scooby posters hanging around the room will get the kids in the mood for some Scooby-style fun!
Have "clue" envelopes spread around the room with each child’s name on it. This decoration can also be part of a fun game (see below). Locate or create some bones, paw prints, along with blue dog collars that have yellow tags around the room. More Scooby balloons and streamers will add the desired touch!
Decorate your tables with Scooby-designed plastic table cloths, along with plates, napkins, tableware, and other Scooby cut-outs to put on the table. If you can find it, you can use the Mystery Machine as a centerpiece with the whole Scooby gang - Shaggy, Thelma, Fred, and Valerie in the middle.
Craft Ideas 2-6 Year Olds
Have each child create their own mystery that Scooby has to solve on construction paper using crayons or markers. Have Scooby stickers on hand to help direct Scooby’s path in solving the mystery of the week.
Bake Scooby cookies in advance of the party, with all of Scooby’s friends as well. Allow the kids to decorate their own cookies to look like Scooby, Scrappy, or even the Mystery Machine!
6-10 Year Olds
Buy some Scooby Shrinky-Dinks! Kids of all ages love to create Shrinky-Dinks, and will have a great time creating a Scooby Doo of their own to take home!
2. Using finger paint or watercolor paint, have each child create their own cartoon with Scooby and the gang. Include the Headless Horseman, Mr. Parker, or other villains who tried to stop "those meddling kids" from solving the mysteries, and therefore, the crimes.
Game Ideas 2-6 Year Olds
Pin the Tail on the Scooby! (It won’t hurt!) In advance, have a large picture of Scooby minus his tail hang on a wall. Cut out enough tails that each child has a chance to "pin" the tail on Scooby, and using double stick tape and a bandana - have each child enjoy pinning the tail on the Scooby!
Have a costume party. Ask each child to come dressed as their favorite Scooby-Doo character, and have prizes for "Most like the Character", "Best Scooby", etc. Make sure (budget willing!) you have enough categories that each child can win something.
6-10 Year Olds
Mystery-time! Create a mystery that each child has to solve along with Scooby’s help. If possible, have an adult dress up as Scooby (rent a Scooby costume from a party store) to help the kids with they mystery. Have the clues you used as part of the decorations available to help each child figure out the mystery. The first one to figure out the mystery, wins!
On a piece of paper, write a list of 10-15 different Scooby-related items. Around the room in which you are having the party, subtly "hide" each item listed on the paper, and have the kids list where each item is. Use a timer for stronger competition, and to keep the game from dragging. The one who finds the most Scooby items in the right places, wins!
Food Ideas
Kids love food! With too many activities and crafts, it may be difficult to incorporate too much food, but here is a fun, easy food idea to match with the theme of the party:
Puppy Chow - made with wheat, rice, and corn chex, along with sugar, chocolate, and powdered sugar, this yummy treat will even make Clifford behave! Easy to make and fun to eat, it looks like real puppy chow, and can be considered an excellent Scooby Snack!
Incorporating just a few of these fun ideas will ensure your little guests have a fun time with Scooby and his friends!
Above all - have FUN and don't forget to take lots of photos.
