Watermelons are deliciously fruity, low in calories, versatile and fun and can make any party successful. A watermelon themed party is easy to decorate for, a selection of red and green balloons can have seeds painted on with permanent marker, and red and green streamers are easy to find. You could bake a watermelon shaped cake by simply baking a round cake and a rectangle one in a batch loaf tin. Cut the round cake in half, place the rectangle one in the middle to form the shape of the watermelon and cover with green frosting. Watermelon is extremely versatile and can be served chilled and sliced for an extra refreshing treat. For something more special why not hollow out half a melon and create bowls full of fruit salad. Watermelon is also a great addition to smoothies, which tend to be loved by all ages and of course they are healthy. If you are making smoothies for the adults, you might like to make a ''hard melon''. This is created by simply drilling a hole into a watermelon and topping the melon up with vodka, rum, or other liquor of your choice, which then saturates the fleshly fruit. Keep topping the melon up over a few hours, then chill, slice and serve as usual.
