Decoration Ideas
Depending on the theme of your party, you will want to decorate accordingly. Examples of how to decorate for a Western-Themed Party include:

  • Decorate for the Rodeo or Square Dance and bring back the feeling of the Old West. Choose cowboy hats and bandanas and have your self a good time. This Western Deco Kit will do the trick!

  • Purchase a "Guitar" Cake Pan, as found at www.jelleyjar.com. Use it as a table centerpiece, surrounded by small cowboy hats, country-western sheet music, bandanas, etc. Or, use the cake pan to bake an actual Guitar cake for the centerpiece of the table (until you’re ready to eat it!).
  • Decorate your home with "Wanted" posters, featuring your guests as those "Wanted" (works especially well if your invitation starts with this theme. Hang the posters or leave them near food tables so guests can mingle and see who is coming to your party!
  • If you want to go really extravagant, you can either rent a mechanical bull (make sure you have this part of your party outside!), or you can decorate your garage with hay bales, old wooden fences, and picnic tables with checkered table cloths for an old-fashioned "barn" feel.

Activity Ideas:
The highlight of the party can be the activities enjoyed by your guests. Some great activities for your Western-Themed Party could include:

  • Hire a professional square dance caller and have them not only teach basic square dancing, but also encourage your guests to enjoy the different types of square dancing taught by the caller. This is a great Western party activity that will keep your guests laughing and definitely entertained. Make sure you have someone taking video for additional after party fun.
  • Wild West Treasure Hunt. Choosing only items that correlate with your theme, create a contest in which your guests have to find the hidden "treasures" around your house (inside and out!). Split your guests into teams, and have a great prize for the winning team in line with your party theme.
  • Costume party! Part of the fun of your party can be to see who is able to dress the part most effectively! From the hat to the boots to spurs, flannel shirts, overalls or bandanas, enlist the help of some objective judges and announce the winner at the end of the evening. While everyone is admiring each other’s costumes, your guests can pitch horseshoes, rope a "calf" (not a real one, but maybe a fence post!), or, if possible, take a ride on the rented mechanical bull! Don't know where to find costumes - take a look at this costume shop You'll be amazed at their selection!

Food Ideas

There are so many great food options for your Western-Themed Party planning! Here are some great ideas for food that will keep your guests coming back for more:

  • Beef/Chicken/Pork/Lamb Stew and Hot bread. What a great way to bring back the west to your guests. Especially if you hold your party in the fall, hot stew and bread are comfort foods enjoyed by cowboys and girls across the ages.
  • Hamburgers, Hot dogs, baked beans, mac and cheese, and other items that are enjoyed over a bonfire are also a great idea for your guests. If you have a firepit in your backyard, this is another great way to enjoy your party while having your guests "make their own" meals!
  • Fried chicken, mashed ‘taters, biscuits and gravy - heart stopping maybe - but everything in moderation, and what a great idea for your hoe-down (especially if you call the Colonel to help with the catering!)

Remember, the key to having a Western-Themed Party is only limited by your own creativity. Hosting a memorable evening for your guests will begin with the invitation, and end with the last "Bye, y’all!"!
